“Poverty will not be eliminated until we learn how to collaborate to change systems. Employers hold a key to economic stability, educational institutions to knowledge, and nonprofits to community assets. This is fertile ground for creative and powerful change.”

Organizational Mission: Since 1981, Project Hope has worked in partnership with families so they can move up and out of poverty by: being a catalyst for change in the lives of families and in the systems that keep them poor; developing and providing family support solutions for homelessness and poverty; and advocating for just public policies that strengthen families.

Interest in Sector Work: Project Hope believes that poverty is caused by a combination of 1) lack of resources; 2) policies and systems that keep people poor; and 3) squelched hopes and dreams. Community members need job opportunities that provide the possibility of 1) growth, education, increased income; 2) a change in the system of access to jobs; and 3) a change in the participants’ hopes and dreams for their future.

For the past two years we have been engaged in a collaborative effort with Partners Health Care for entry level positions within the healthcare system. Participants come from low-income communities in Greater Boston. As the third largest employer in the state of Massachusetts in one of the fastest growing fields, Partners provides multiple opportunities for community members to make significant changes in their lives. Participants receive ongoing support to obtain a job, resolve barriers and make future educational and vocational plans.
